Moving with Kids - Seven Simple Ways to Prepare Yourself and The Kids for The Big Move

There is a saying that many hands make work light. This is so not true when it comes to hands that belong to kids. Apart from the work, there are emotional aspects that need to be considered as well and it can get tricky with kids.

Shifting homes is never easy. That is why people always looking to opt for the best packers and movers company. In this article "Moving with Kids - Seven simple ways to prepare yourself and the kids for the big move" we are trying to de-clutter the chaos.
1. Announcements are in order- So, you have managed to get the entire family together and your little one is staring at you wide-eyed wondering what it could be. You can just say it out loud" we are shifting home" or you can go easy and round the bush by asking "What an adventure the new surrounding will be". Whatever you chose to do, resistance and questions will be there so listen, acknowledge, and give them the chance to take it in. Do not be hasty in making the move and plan out the entire process by spacing it with time. Your child also had built his/her room, memories, and friends so there will be real emotions involved. Be gentle and patient. Involve them in the decision because children often feel left out and don't co-operate. So, for a smooth transition, get the kiddies to vote too.
2. Help yourself first- Put on your oxygen mask first and then help out others. Stress is the most prominent factor that gets leverage in situations like the home move. Your child is tired and so are you. Stop taping the boxes and go to sleep. Your child will not be going to bed straight away and by the time you are really tired they are in the mood for some more fun. You also need to rest and wake up fresh to finish the remaining chores. Apart from the boxes, your child will need your attention as well.
3. Make a memory log- How can you get your child to absorb the whole moving sentiment? Get them involved in a moving memory log. Take pictures with them in every corner of the home. Have a farewell party just for family and friends. Get them to pack their favorite and important things in boxes and label them. Ask them to make a memory book where they get to have their inventory.
4. Expectations- News is always easy to absorb when expectations are clear. Take your child with you when you are visiting your new home before the move. This way you can introduce them to the surroundings and play games like find the best pizza place or nearest park etc. Stop at fruit and vegetable shops or even visit the library.
5. Give them space- If your child is displaying sadness and crying let them grieve it out and give them space. You have to allow them to absorb the fact they will no longer be in a known environment. Everything is going to be new for them and they are not as mentally prepared as you. Take them to their favorite spots and click pictures. Ask them what is so special about it. Get them to write letters of thank you and goodbye for friends and neighbors.
6. Allow your child to participate- Give your child some control in the decision-making process. Take them with you shopping for packing materials like tapes and markers. Let them chose the colors and stick notes. Involve your child in clearing the wardrobes and sorting out old and worn-out clothes. Allow them to sort out clothes color-wise or size-wise. Keep them involved so that they can feel responsible.
7. Plan out activities after the move- Plan activities with your children after the move. Ask for their help in unpacking the boxes, organizing the kitchen cutlery, unpacking dishes, etc. Go out for some dinner or lunch and try seeking out the best pizza place or burger joint.
Children are synonymous with unpredictability so try everything possible to make the move easy, fun, and memorable. Always go with professional packers and movers in Mumbai for all your shifting needs.
